Netflix gives up adapting this trilogy of successful books

Despite the thunderous success of the series Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+, Netflix will not continue its project of adapting another successful literary saga by author Rick Riordan. The trilogy Kane Chronicles (The Kane Chronicles in VF) will therefore not become a series of films on the streaming platform.

In the pipeline since 2020, films Kane Chronicles were to adapt the three novels The Red Pyramid (published in 2010), The Throne of Fire (2011) and The Shadow of the Serpent (2012), but as their author explained on Goodreadsthis will not happen:

At present, Kane Chronicles is in “turnaround”, meaning Netflix decided not to move forward and their option on the books expired after two years of trying to develop a story nario that they liked” Riordan wrote. “Now the future of the films depends on whether another studio wants to step in, take on the pre-production costs and move them forward.

Located in the same universe as the saga Percy Jacksonwhich gives pride of place to Greek mythology, Kane Chronicles focuses on Egypt through the story of Carter and Sadie Kane, two teenagers who discover that the Egyptian gods and magicians are not legends and that they still live in our world ©epoch.

Although the recent adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians in series has done very well on Disney+ (with around 20.6 million views on the streaming service according to Variety), Netflix failed to put together a version of Kane Chronicles which suited him.

Especially since, as Riordan pointed out on Goodreadsstreaming platforms tend these days to put a stop to the quantity of their productions:

“The streaming industry as a whole is currently reducing its development schedule, which means it is canceling more content and producing less. Kane Chronicles got caught up in this trend, despite the great success of the Percy Jackson series.

Although Riordan fans must forgo seeing this literary trilogy for young people come to life on Netflix, they can nevertheless rejoice in the return of Percy Jackson on Disney+ soon, because the series has been renewed for a season 2.
