An animated series adaptation of the Scott Pilgrim comic book series is in development for Netflix, with the creator and author of the comics at the helm.

Bryan Lee O’Malley’s cult comic series, Scott Pilgrim was adapted for the cinema by Edgar Wright in 2010 and very quickly found a place of choice in the hearts of fans. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this character is expected to return to the small screen in an animated series for Netflix.

The US platform and Universal Cable Productions, the branch of Universal Studio Group already at work behind The Umbrella Academy, are developing a brand new adaptation, which has not yet been officially ordered, however.

Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of Scott Pilgrim, is writing and producing this series with BenDavid Grabinski, the showrunner of Scare Me! on Nickelodeon. If the project gets the green light, the two will officiate as showrunners.

The animation will be worked on by the Japanese studio Science SARU, to which we owe Super Shiro, Japan Sinks 2020 and the credits of Adventure Time, among others. As for the direction, it is Abel Gongora, a member of the studio team, who was chosen for this position.

Released between 2004 and 2010, the six-volume Scott Pilgrilm comic book series told the story of an unemployed 23-year-old Canadian who plays bass in the group Sex Bob-omb. When he falls in love with Ramona Victoria Flowers, an American delivery girl, Scott will have to fight his seven evil exes to hope to be able to go out with her.
