Worn by Kev Adams and Camille Lellouche, the Netflix comedy “Happy We Year” has drawn the wrath of Internet users on Twitter, but for what reasons?
Online since December 28 on Netflix, Happy We Year is heating up spirits on social networks. This romantic comedy behind closed doors by Frank Bellocq – the creator of the Soda series – brings together Kev Adams and Camille Lellouche.
The story is simple: two strangers, on their way to their New Year’s party, find themselves stuck in an elevator. Forced to wait, they have no choice but to get to know each other.
The entirety of this medium-length film – lasting 59 minutes – therefore takes place in this restricted space with nevertheless a few flashback scenes to flesh out the plot.
So why is this seemingly innocuous film arousing so many fiery reactions on Twitter?
Without even having watched it – by their own admission – many have attacked the title and its rather easy puns, but especially the headliners, Kev Adams and Camille Lellouche, two regulars on the scene. “My definition of anxiety”, can we read on one of the tweets.
Others accuse the film of plagiarizing one of the plots of Happy New Year. In this choral comedy from Garry Marshall, two characters, played by Ashton Kutcher and Lea Michele, also find themselves stuck in an elevator on New Year’s Eve.
Some excerpts are pointed out, like this sequence in which the hero played by Kev Adams confuses the character Calimero and the singer Calogero:
