Netflix: this High School Musical in the land of monsters will vampirize teenagers!

When High School Musical meets the Universal monsters (but not only that!), it gives “Monster High”, a live adaptation of a toy brand launched by Mattel in 2010. The film, released directly on video in 2022, makes a hit on Netflix!

During this Halloween period, one would logically have thought that the horror films in the Netflix catalog were particularly at the party, prancing at the top of the Top Weekly of the week, between a Get Out, Ouija: The Origins (better than the first part), or an It: chapter 2 and its nightmarish clown Pennywise. Evil Orders, inspired by an incredible true story, still wins the bronze medal for the most watched films currently on the platform.

It is the film located on the fourth step of the podium which surprises, and seems to hold on to not let go: Monster High, the film. Kesako? Basically, it is a series of fashion dolls launched by Mattel in July 2010.

The characters are inspired by fantasy literature, mythology, or even cult films. Monster High is available on a wide range of products such as clothing, costume jewelry and stationery, but its main revenue comes from the fashion dolls of the same name. It is also accompanied by special episodes for television and the DVD market, and a web series.

Welcome to Monster High!

Live adaptation released (directly on video) in 2022 and signed by Todd Holland, Monster High the movie is literally a cross between High School Musical revisited and corrected in the Universal Monsters style, since we come across teenage versions of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man, or even a female version of the headless horseman from Sleepy Hollow.

The pitch? Born to a werewolf mother and a human father, Clawdeen has always hidden her true nature from her comrades. On her 15th birthday, the teenager is surprised to receive a somewhat special invitation: Monster High, a high school for monsters that her late mother attended in her youth, offers her a place.

Although reluctant, Apollo, her father, still agrees to let her try her luck in this establishment, while warning her that this time she must hide her human side or risk serious trouble. Indeed, monsters consider humans as a threat and refuse to be around them. There, Clawdeen quickly fits in with her new friends…

Perhaps enough to satisfy (or not…) your incisors before tackling works that are much more consistent in this area.
