Netflix: this shock film which was a hit during confinement will have a sequel!

It is one of the most viewed foreign language films on Netflix and it shocked subscribers when it was released. The American giant offers him a sequel, which is revealed in pictures.

It caused a sensation at the TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) in 2019 and its release on Netflix in March 2020, in full confinement, caused a stir. Not recommended for those under 18, this dystopian thriller shocked subscribers and met with resounding success.

This film is The Platform of Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. Becoming the most popular Spanish feature film in the history of Netflix, this thriller, which is set between Cube and Snowpiercer, quickly won over subscribers with its mind-blowing story.

As a reminder, La Platform immerses us in a dark prison-tower, called “La Fosse”, crossed in its center by a slab carrying exceptional dishes prepared by chefs and descending from floor to floor to feed the prisoners.

Good news for the most popular Spanish film on Netflix

This unfair system favors the first served and starves the last. Each prisoner has the right to take an object for his detention and has two minutes to eat what he can on the platform but cannot keep any food in his cell which he shares with another prisoner.

We then follow the story of Goreng (Iván Massagué), who voluntarily joined the prison-tower to climb the social ladder. For months, Goreng will try to survive in the Pit where the only law that dominates is “eat or be eaten” in the face of cannibalistic, violent, deviant and perverse prisoners until a crazy outcome, which had raised many questions from the share of subscribers.

The Platform on Netflix: what to understand from the end?

If we had shared food for thought when the film was released, Netflix had published a few weeks later an explanatory video on the end of The Platform with in particular the comments of the director and the different interpretations of the final outcome.

Three years later, Netflix announced that a sequel to The Platform was in production! The American giant shared the information on Twitter with exclusive images of this sequel, which will still be directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.

According to the visuals unveiled by Netflix, we will find in the cast Milena Smit, who is also starring in the Netflix film Tin & Tina and Hovik Keuchkerian, already seen in the series The Night Manager. For the moment, no details on the synopsis have been revealed. The release date has not yet been announced either.

The movie The Platform is available on Netflix.
