Netflix wants to relaunch its best horror franchise with a new film

After its three “Fear Street” films, the Netflix platform wants to relaunch the franchise with a new opus and hopes to have its own Freddy or Jason.

Before being a series of Netflix films, offered in three parts – 1994, 1978 and 1666 -, Fear Street is a collection of novels written by RL Stine, the author of Goosebumps.

After the success of the feature films released in 2021, the platform wishes to relaunch the franchise with a fourth part, independent of the previous three, with new characters and a new story.

The information was revealed by Scott Stuber, director of the cinema section at Netflix, in an interview with Collider. The Fear Street collection contains more than 50 volumes, so obviously the platform does not lack choice. The CEO announces that a team is currently working on the script for the new film.

By relaunching this franchise, Netflix hopes to find its own iconic horror character: “I would like us to find our own Freddy Krueger, our own Jason, this iconic horror character, but we are not there yet. The team is working hard because I believe the opportunity is real. There are so many good characters.

It must be said that although the horror genre has sometimes experienced some difficult periods, particularly during the 2000s, it has never been as popular as it is today. The recent successes of the Blumhouse films and the Scream reboot, among others, prove this.

On Netflix, this is all the more true as each horrific offering very often ends up taking the top spots in the rankings.

Author RL Stine continues to inspire films and series. Recently, the Disney+ platform released a new, darker and more horrific version of Goosebumps as a series. An excellent surprise.

All three Fear Street films are still available on Netflix.
