Netflix with advertising: Apple TV, Chromecast and Playstation – it doesn’t work on these devices

NETFLIX

Netflix has launched its new Basic plan with ads. But on some devices you look in the tube: Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast or Playstation? Netzwelt reveals where it works.

  • Netflix’s new Basic plan with ads doesn’t work on all major platforms.
  • Older Chromecast dongles and all Apple TV devices are not compatible.
  • Playstation users can only use the new subscription on the PS4 and PS5, not on the PS3.

The new advertising-supported Netflix tariff has another catch: the cheap new subscription shouldn’t even run on some popular platforms – other device series are probably only partially served.

This emerges from a support entry on the Netflix website. While the new Netflix tariff with advertisements should run without restrictions on Fire TV, according to the entry, no device from the Apple TV series is compatible.

Also interesting…

The budget subscription can only be used with restrictions on Chromecast devices from Google – namely only the new device line with Google TV, which has been on the market since 2020. Playstation users should also only be able to access the new tariff with the more recent PS4 and PS5 models.

According to the bloggers, the basic tariff, which is partially financed by advertising, can only be used on mobile devices with the operating system versions iOS 15 and Android 7.
