WTF robbery film, this feature film written by Evan Turner (The Goldbergs) and Ben Zazove (Sherlock Gnomes) tells a completely crazy family story.
The life of Owen Browning (Adam Devine), a bank branch manager, is organized and happy. Nothing could break his balance especially since he asked the love of his life Parker McDermott (Nina Dobrev) to marry him.
But that was without counting Parker’s parents, Billy (Pierce Brosnan) and Lilly McDermott (Ellen Barkin). The arrival of this eccentric and mysterious couple strangely coincides with the robbery committed by the famous “Ghost Bandis” at Owen’s bank, which is traumatized.

He then suspects his future in-laws of being the thugs in question. When he finds out the truth, it’s too late. Parker is kidnapped by enemies of his parents and Owen is forced to team up with Billy and Lilly to pull off another heist in order to save Parker.
Mixing action, comedy and heist always goes well together and this feature film produced by Adam Sandler is no exception by taking up all the effective codes of these film genres to make it a delirious family adventure.
Gangsters by Alliance is in no way revolutionary because its plot is quite conventional, the twists expected and the characters fairly stereotyped. But the film has the intelligence not to stretch its story (it’s 1h30!), to play the entertainment card to the fullest with pleasant action scenes, a casting that gives it their all and a soundtrack which perfectly punctuates this adventure calibrated for a Netflix evening with family or friends.
