Netflix’s “The Last Kingdom”: Filmed, but no start date – what “Vikings: Valhalla” has to do with it

Netflix: “Vikings: Valhalla” pushes ahead

“Vikings: Valhalla” is holding back “The Last Kingdom”.

Netflix

Netflix itself commented on the start of the new Viking saga as follows: “After “Vikings”, the series “Vikings: Valhalla” tells more than a hundred years later the adventures of the legendary explorer Leif Eriksson, his strong-willed sister Freydís Eiríksdóttir and the Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson as tensions between the Vikings and the English royal family reach a bloody high. The brand new adventure will be released worldwide and exclusively on Netflix on February 25th, 2022.”

The fact that “The Last Kingdom” has been a very similar series in the streaming service’s portfolio since 2015 seems to go unnoticed. The fans have been waiting in vain for months for a start date for the final fifth season, which has officially been filmed since June 2021.

So when can fans expect The Last Kingdom finale? It’s hard to say, but Netflix certainly won’t be around the corner with the new episodes in March. The “Vikings: Valhalla” hype should then still be too big for that. It’s probably more likely to start in the summer. By the way, that won’t be the end of it: The real finale of the franchise is the film “Seven Kings Must Die”, as actor Alexander Dreymon recently announced on Instagram. But this special has already been turned off. It is therefore also possible that season five and the film will be released at the same time.

Before that, the Vikings of “Vikings: Valhalla” are unleashed. See the trailer for it above.
