New at Aldi and Lidl: Customers can now find these products at discount stores

With a new product, Lidl wants to dissuade customers from consuming meat and offer an alternative. As the “Lebensmittel Zeitung” reports, “hybrid meat” will soon land on the shelves of numerous discount stores. It is a mixture of meat and vegetables. For example, Lidl offers minced meat and burger patties made from beef mixed with jackfruit.

In addition, the Lidl range also offers Wiener sausages with carrots and chicken sausages with soy. The proportion of vegetables varies from product to product. Some offers contain up to 40 percent vegetables. The offer will start on January 10, 2022 in over 3,200 branches.

According to Lidl, the discounter chain wants to use the new products to reach customers who do not want to forego meat but want to reduce their ecological footprint. The range is also to be expanded in the future. No wonder, after all, the idea is not as new as it appears at first glance. “Hybrid meat” products have been on the market for several years, but are now attracting more and more attention.

Among other things, Aldi Süd will also be launching a range of salami made from poultry and beef, supplemented with vegetable ingredients, from January 14, 2022. Rewe has also been offering such products for a number of years. The discounter started with it as early as 2010, but at that time it was not yet able to achieve any great success with customers.
