New Canal+ releases: films, series and documentaries to watch in streaming in May 2024

The French encrypted channel comes to warm us up in this still chilly spring by adding films, series and documentaries to its catalog in May. A nicely endowed program, which reinforces the status of Canal+ as an interesting alternative to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+.

Before presenting you the list of new programs which will join the Canal+ catalog in May 2024, here as usual is our selection of films and series of the month on the service.

After Foundation, For All Mankind And ConstellationApple TV+ continues to plow the furrow of sophisticated science fiction with Dark Matter. This new series adapted from the bestseller by Blake Crouch (Wayward Pines) promises a story that borrows from the classics Total Recall And Solaris. A psychological thriller surrounded by sci-fi, and carried by a nice cast: Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson…

In 1858, in the Jewish quarter of Bologna, the Pope’s soldiers burst into the home of the Mortara family. On the cardinal’s orders, they came to take Edgardo, their seven-year-old son. The child would have been baptized in secret by his nanny as a baby and the pontifical law is indisputable: he must receive a Catholic education.

Director Marco Bellochio (The traitor, Vincere) adapts a terrible and incredible true story, and delivers a sublime film about faith and family love, while dissecting a still fresh wound in Italian history. Poignant, disturbing, confusing… Pick up is one of the great films of last year, worth seeing (or rewatching) without delay.
