Even after parting ways with coach Dirk Schuster, 1. FC Kaiserslautern has a problem with results in the 2nd Bundesliga. The defeat in Magdeburg was heavy. The fact that the former player will become Grammozi’s new coach is so far only a rumor.
Despite parting ways with coach Dirk Schuster two days ago, 1. FC Kaiserslautern has not ended its negative streak in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Saturday evening, the team coached by Niklas Martin and Oliver Schäfer lost 1:4 (1:1) to 1. FC Magdeburg. Luc Castaignos gave the hosts the lead after 17 minutes in front of 25,214 spectators, and Terrence Boyd equalized eight minutes later. Herbert Bockhorn (51′) headed the hosts in front again. Substitute Connor Krempicki (75′) and Cristiano Piccini (86’/penalty) made everything clear for Magdeburg, who climbed past FCK to tenth place in the table.
Both teams played a good game, although there were few goalscoring scenes in the first half. Both hits came practically out of nowhere. When Magdeburg took the lead, Silas Gnaka undermined the entire guest defense with a pass into the interface; Castaignos had an easy time of it. Boyd scored on the other end with a shot from a standing position.
Grammozi’s new coach?
Magdeburg came out of the break with more momentum and passion. The quick lead was logical. Kaiserslautern had difficulty finding its own line again. The Saxony-Anhalt team took advantage of this and continued to play aggressively forward, scoring their first home win after four unsuccessful games with the eighth joker goal of the season a quarter of an hour before the end. Piccini went one better with his penalty goal.
Before the game, Lautern’s sports director Thomas Hengen neither wanted to confirm nor deny a report from “Bild” that former professional Dimitrios Grammozis would be introduced as the new coach on Sunday. “We don’t comment on names or rumors,” said Hengen. However, according to information from “Sport1”, Grammozi will be the new coach.
