DFB comeback failed: Manuel Neuer leaves injured

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is leaving the German national football team early after a training injury. The FC Bayern keeper is therefore out of the upcoming international matches against France and the Netherlands. The 37-year-old suffered a torn muscle fiber in his left thigh.
Bitter news for Manuel Neuer: The 37-year-old, who has just been promoted to number 1 in Germany’s goal again, has to miss the start of the European Championship year. According to the DFB, Neuer tore a muscle fiber in his left adductor during training on Wednesday and has already left the DFB selection camp in Frankfurt early.
This means he will miss the international match on Saturday (9 p.m. on ZDF and in the live ticker at ntv.de) in Lyon against France, in which he was supposed to make his DFB comeback after 15 months, and the encounter with the Netherlands on Tuesday in Frankfurt.
This means Neuer’s “eternal” deputy Marc-Andre ter Stegen (31), who actually wanted to prefer the 2014 world champion to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, should come into play. Ter Stegen, who has been a regular at FC Barcelona for years, has played eight of the eleven international matches since the preliminary round disaster at the World Cup in Qatar in Neuer’s absence after his broken leg.
Last November, in the defeats against Turkey (2:3) and Austria (0:2), Ter Stegen was out due to a back injury. At that time, Kevin Trapp, who was not taken into account this time, was in goal.
