The new Omikron variant is on the advance and has already gained the upper hand in some federal states – the incidence is currently over 300. The federal and state governments have discussed new Corona measures – this will apply from January 15, 2022.

In London soldiers have to help out in the clinics, in New York the subway runs only irregularly. The contagious Omikron variant strikes mercilessly. In order to maintain the basic supply in Germany, the federal and state governments discussed new measures in the corona pandemic with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The federal and state health ministers want to discuss the measures again in the coming week. In particular, the aim is to agree on the transnational measures with the aim of curbing the pandemic events made dynamic by the “Omikron variant”, according to the Ministry of Health in Saxony-Anhalt.

quarantine

In order to maintain the basic supply in Germany, the quarantine period is being shortened and simplified in some professional groups. In addition, the quarantine is completely omitted for some groups of contact persons – for example with boosted people.

Basically, isolation or quarantine usually ends after 10 days. “Free testing” is possible after 7 days, but only upon presentation of a PCR test or a certified rapid antigen test. For students it is 5 days.

Contact restrictions

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach had called for stricter rules before the federal-state conference, but the ministers agreed that the existing regulations were sufficient. If all are vaccinated, a total of 10 people are allowed to meet – this rule applies both indoors and outdoors. A non-vaccinated person may only meet with their own household and two other people.

gastronomy

The 2G-Plus rule will apply across the board in the entire catering trade in Germany. According to this, only vaccinated or recovered people with a current test have access. Boosted patients are exempt from the obligation to test – the rule applies regardless of the incidence.

The financial aid, especially for the catering industry, is being extended again. The bridging aid IV will now be adjusted once again in order to accommodate the additional work and costs incurred through higher controls.

Compulsory vaccination

Chancellor Olaf Scholz continued to advocate compulsory vaccination. He got a tailwind from the 16 country managers. There is currently no schedule of how things will continue in this regard. The Bundestag will discuss this promptly, said Scholz.

Epidemic situation

The Union-led federal states had demanded that the epidemic situation be re-established in order to be able to implement measures nationwide more quickly. They could not prevail – the epidemic situation of national importance will not be re-established.

Masks

At the press conference, it was again requested that only FFP2 masks should be worn in retail and public transport. In the resolution of the federal and state governments, the home office obligation was reminded so that unnecessary journeys in public transport can be prevented.
