New electric Mini: 400 km range in karting mode

Mini is gradually lifting the veil on the official characteristics of its next electric Mini Cooper. The fifth generation of the three-door Mini will be available for purchase by the end of 2023 and will be produced at the Leipzig plant from November.

This new generation will be available in a Mini Cooper E with a power of 183 hp and a Mini Cooper SE with 217 hp. These electric motors will be powered by two batteries of different capacities. The Mini Cooper E will run on a 40.7 kWh battery while that of the Mini Cooper SE will have a capacity of 54.2 kWh. If these figures are not breathtaking, they will nevertheless allow the city car to maintain a relatively contained weight. Thus, the autonomy should be between 300 and 400 kilometers, which widens the radius of action of the car compared to the current generation.

To keep the “karting” spirit dear to the Mini, the manufacturer relies on a skateboard type platform and announces that the “lithium-ion battery is installed in the floor for optimal handling and weight distribution, while increasing the stability and agility of the car.” The electric Mini will be able to carry four people on board.

Like the Mini Countryman, which will be produced at the BMW plant in Leipzig from November 2023, the new Mini Cooper Electric is therefore on the way to a fully electric future. A Mini Aceman will complete the range of 100% electric models from 2024.
