New energy-saving campaign – This is how the Federal Council wants to encourage the population to save electricity – News

The Federal Council launched a savings campaign on Wednesday in view of a feared energy shortage in winter. With simple tips he wants to encourage the population to save energy voluntarily.

The federal government is carrying out the campaign together with the cantons and the economy, as the state government announced. Over 40 partners are taking part. The aim is for so many private households and companies to voluntarily implement the measures so that there is no energy shortage in the first place.

The federal government developed the campaign with partners from civil society, business and the public sector. The 40 players involved will then join together to form an “Energy Saving Alliance”. This should get wider and wider over the course of the winter.

The campaign complements the measures taken by the Federal Council, as it writes. These include additional reserves for gas and electricity. In addition, the state government set a voluntary savings target of 15 percent for gas for the winter months.

“Energy is scarce. Let’s not waste them.” This is the motto of the savings campaign that will run until April 2023. The savings tips are intended to show simple methods of reducing energy consumption.

Less heating, cooler showers

This includes lowering the heating temperature, lower hot water consumption, switching off electrical appliances or the lighting or energy-saving cooking and baking. The campaign visualizes the tips with thermal images that show how quickly energy can go to waste.

Most of the recommendations should be known, it is said. The campaign aims to bring them back to mind. The information will be available on the website non-wasting.ch, on posters, in advertisements and on the federal government’s social media channels. The partner organizations use their own channels.

Energy is scarce. Let’s not waste them

Energy Minister Simonetta Sommaruga has called for a joint effort to save energy in view of the impending shortage of electricity and gas next winter. “I’m convinced that together we can achieve a lot,” she said at the media conference in Bern. The top priority of the Federal Council is that a shortage does not arise in the first place, emphasized the Federal Councilor when presenting the campaign.

The campaign is part of the winter energy-saving initiative of the two Federal Departments of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) and of Economics, Education and Research (EAER).
