While waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6, two remakes of cult games

The Elder Scrolls 6 is eagerly awaited by everyone, and to wait properly, you will be able to enjoy some very nice games in the meantime. Something to bring back good memories.

The TESRenewal project, launched in 2012, continues to captivate fans of The Elder Scrolls franchise with its two ambitious initiatives: Skyblivion and Skywind. These projects aim to reimagine the classic games Oblivion and Morrowind using Skyrim’s more modern graphics engine. This modernization approach promises to bring the beloved worlds of Cyrodiil and Morrowind back to life with remastered graphics and improved gameplay mechanics. And the projects are progressing, perfect for waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6.

Skyblivion is a rework of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This fan-made project aims to recreate the entirety of Cyrodiil, enriching the experience with improved graphics, more realistic weather effects, advanced lighting, and an expanded soundtrack. The developers have also revisited game mechanics such as the class system, spell creation, underwater combat, and even interactions with NPCs. Expected for 2025, Skyblivion will also include new minor quests with original voice acting. Below, we can discover the evolution of the project:

At the same time, Skywind seeks to merge The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the graphical and technical capabilities of Skyrim. This mod, also developed by volunteers, is a total conversion that reimagines Morrowind in high definition. Textures, music, quests and gameplay have been completely redesigned to provide a modern experience while preserving the original essence of the game.

These projects not only boosted interest in older games in the series, but also had a positive impact on sales of existing games, attracting new players and encouraging old ones to revisit past titles. Bethesda Softworks, the games’ publisher, has officially approved these initiatives, recognizing their ability to enrich the universe of The Elder Scrolls. And then, it’s a good thing to be patient and wait for The Elder Scrolls 6.

Note that the development of Skyblivion and Skywind relies on the commitment of hundreds of volunteers, including artists, composers, designers, and developers. Moreover, these teams invite enthusiasts with the required skills to join them to contribute to these ambitious projects.
