  • By the end of 2022, the number of cross-border commuters had grown by 6.1 percent compared to the previous year.
  • Their share of the working population increased by 0.4 percentage points to 7.3 percent.

A total of 380,000 workers commuted to Switzerland from abroad at the end of last year, according to figures from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO). Growth was the same for men and women.

The age group between 35 and 44 was the most strongly represented with 29 percent. your increase lagged slightly behind overall growth at 5.8 percent.

More than half live in France

In the fourth quarter of 2022, a majority of 56.3 percent of cross-border commuters were resident in France, 23.5 percent lived in Italy, followed by Germany (17.1 percent).

2.3 percent lived in Austria and 0.2 percent in the Principality of Liechtenstein.
