Eight children are currently with a corona infection in the Styrian state hospitals – more than ever, says spokesman Reinhard Marczik. Six of them are younger than a year, and one premature baby is even in intensive care.
However, the babies do not have Covid-19 as the main diagnosis, i.e. they were admitted for other diseases or have been in treatment for a longer period of time. In contrast to the other two children (two and nine years old) who are admitted to the hospital because of an acute coronavirus infection. According to Marczik, this development is further evidence of how strong the infection rate is currently among the youngest in our society. Situation in the hospitals tense Overall, the corona situation in the Styrian hospitals remains tense: 73 infected people are in intensive care units. In Eastern Styria, where there was no free intensive care bed at the end of the previous week, the situation is still the most difficult, says Marczik.
