New information hotline – 42,000 cyber attacks on Carinthia in one evening

The attacks continue: there were 42,000 hacker attacks on Carinthia on Tuesday evening alone. This time, however, the new protective mechanisms held up! An information hotline has been set up for concerned citizens.

For more than two weeks, the Carinthian state administration has been under digital “attack” by hackers. The EDP systems of the state audit office, the school authorities and all district authorities, which are closely interwoven with the state, have also been badly affected Internet slowed down. Gerd Kurath, the country’s crisis spokesman: “On Tuesday evening alone there were 42,000 so-called DoS attacks on our IT, but this time the defense mechanisms held up.” This did not achieve the overload of the digital system intended by the hackers. For the time being, says Kurath , no further ransom demand was received. It remains with the five million dollars in bitcoin digital currency that the criminals are demanding. The dark web is a small part of the internet that we all use every day. It’s not public, it’s password protected and it’s encrypted – so anonymous! And that’s exactly why it’s being used more and more by criminals, for example there are illegal shops where drugs, weapons or data are sold and bought. But no handwritten certificates. Starting next week, the upcoming payment of basic services will be possible again and the teachers can also breathe a sigh of relief. You don’t have to handwrite the school reports that are due soon, you can print them out again. Many gigabytes of data were stolen by the hackers, including sensitive ones such as credit card information and passport data, which were distributed via the Darknet. A hotline has been set up for anyone who has concerns or would like to find out more: 050536-53003.
