Rewe wants to venture into a new area. As reported by “Lebensmittel Zeitung”, among others, the grocer is planning a local version of the ZooRoyal brand. This is a specialist shop for pet supplies that has so far operated online. However, the pet store should also attract local customers in the future.
As a location, Rewe has Hamburg in mind. Initially, a prototype store of around 2,000 square meters is to be considered. On site, the two models – online and offline – are to be strongly linked. In addition to products for animal needs, customers and four-legged friends should also find service providers there. So there should be hairdressers or vets there, among other things.

However, Rewe is still keeping a low profile when it comes to the project. It is therefore difficult to say exactly when the new location is to start. According to insider circles, the opening should take place in the spring. However, there could also be short-term shifts. If there is a more precise date, we will add it here.
By entering the pet supplies market, Rewe is entering a growth area. The Corona pandemic has given this area a boost. Because especially at the beginning of the pandemic, many people got a pet. Most pet supplies are still bought online. With a stationary brand that is gradually being raised throughout Germany, Rewe could appeal to a large number of customers here.
