New ordinance coming – launch! Crows are at the collar

The state administrative court decided: hunters are no longer allowed to shoot magpies, crows and jays – at least in Tennengau. After complaints from nature conservationists, the court overturned a corresponding decision by the district administration, which “Krone” reported. But: The state government is already working on a new regulation.

With this, the shooting of the birds of prey should be legally possible in the future without hesitation. “Corvids are not endangered and cause enormous damage, especially in agriculture,” says ÖVP club chairman Wolfgang Mayer. “No hunter is keen on shooting a crow. It’s about avoiding and repairing damage,” says Mayr Melnhof. And: “Magpies and jays are nest robbers.” The number of songbirds in Salzburg has now been greatly reduced. With corvids, things are completely different: “There are ongoing counts here,” emphasizes the state hunting master.
