The Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 will make its competition debut at the Monte-Carlo Rally, January 20-23. Three cars will be driven throughout the 2022 WRC season by drivers Craig Breen, Adrien Fourmaux and Gus Greensmith.
Nine-time FIA World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb will join the M-Sport Ford World Rally team to take part in this year’s Monte Carlo Rally, an event he has already won seven times.
Ford’s first electrified racing car
Taking inspiration from the Puma EcoBoost Hybrid, the new M-Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 is Ford’s first electrified competition car. A next-generation hybrid motor recovers energy during braking and coasting, then stores it in a 3.9 kWh battery. This energy is then used to supplement the performance of the turbocharged 1.6l EcoBoost petrol engine, with repeated accelerations of up to three seconds thanks to a 100 kW electric motor.
The vehicle can also traverse towns, service areas, and select sections between stages using 100% electric power. The battery can be recharged using an external power source at dedicated service points between stages, with recharging taking approximately 25 minutes.
Additionally, FIA WRC1 Rally competitors will use non-fossil fuel from the 2022 season, blending synthetic and biodegradable elements to produce a 100% sustainable fuel.
