An impressive energy consumption of only 8.3 kWh, compared to 8.7 kWh at the previous record.
In April 2021, Mercedes-Benz promised an electric with 1,000 km of autonomy. A year later, this Mercedes Vision EQXX, made official last January, actually traveled the 1,008 km separating the small town of Sindelfingen, located near Stuttgart in Germany, to Cassis, a town on the Côte d’Azur, with a single charge. . But this record only lasted a few weeks: the racing car finally managed to cover 1,202 km.
Heading to England
The starting point was always the same. However, the driver of the vehicle was not destined for the heavenly shores of the Mediterranean, but rather the rainy lands of Perfidious Albion. The destination: the Silverstone circuit, in England.
The journey took place over two days and took just over 14 hours and 30 minutes. As in the first, it took place on regulated roads and used by other motorists. Road traffic was also quite busy around Stuttgart and London.
Result: the Mercedes Vision EQXX showed a remarkable consumption of 8.3 kWh per 100 km. The previous record was 8.7 kWh.
However, the conditions were not ideal: the temperatures were close to 30°C and put more strain on the cooling system than during the previous trip. Moreover, the air conditioning was used for a good part of the trip (about 8 hours). It is likely that in the fall, with milder temperatures, the Mercedes Vision EQXX will shine again.
11 laps to finish
To close this demonstration as it should, Formula E driver Nyck de Vries was even able to completely drain the battery by completing 11 laps of the Silverstone circuit while putting the rubber on.
Well, the experience must have been less exhilarating than with a Formula E. Indeed, the Mercedes Vision EQXX is more of a camel than a racehorse: it takes 7 seconds to go from 0 to 100 km/h, and its top speed tops out at around 140 km/h.
Remember that the vehicle is not intended to be marketed as is, it essentially serves as an innovation platform.
