new revelations that will make you dream

FF7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi has made a statement about the trilogy’s conclusion, and it should already make your mouth water.

FF7 Rebirth is being devoured in length and breadth by players. The community is clearly buzzing about the release of the remake sequel, and who could blame them? Now, Square Enix will officially be able to move on, that is to say the last opus of the new trilogy. In truth, the work has already started for quite some time. The proof is that we still have additional information on this upcoming third game, and it’s rather exciting.

WARNING, the following article includes SPOILERS concerning FF7 Remake AND Rebirth, as well as Final Fantasy 7 (the original). You have been warned.

New information on FF7 Remake 3

To put you in context, the development of FF7 Remake 3 (provisional name) began in June 2022. And from what we understand, it is progressing quite well, particularly in terms of the script. Kazushige Nojima has normally made a first complete outline of the story, which gives us an idea of the state of the project. Today, Naoki Hamaguchi, the man behind Rebirth, spoke with IGN about the remake’s famous conclusion. He didn’t go into too much detail, but we still learned some interesting things.

Already, he started by talking about Rocket Town, the town where Cid lives. It could be covered in FF7 Remake 3, where this is not the case in the new opus. “Given the way we are presenting Cid’s character in the Remake, which is to say in a slightly different way, Nojima-san, Nomura-san and I were all aligned in this decision to consider that for the next title.” It is therefore not certain and certain, but we can have good hope of finding this place in the final act of the overhaul.

Besides, why was the Rocket Town area not included in FF7 Rebirth? Well, we got an explanation for that. In fact, the idea was to focus on the Gongaga region, which is optional in the base game. “In the original, the Gongaga zone was optional for players. So we wanted to dive in and explore it in more depth for Rebirth”. Sometimes you have to make difficult choices, especially when it comes to a remake, even if it means disappointing some fans. Afterwards, are they really angry about it, that’s the question.

An unexpected casting at the rendezvous?

FF7 Rebirth and the first chapter of the remake also surprised players with another aspect: the integration of characters from the Final Fantasy VII compilation. We obviously think of Weiss from Dirge of Cerberus who appears in the INTERmission DLC or, more recently, Elena. But will there be more in part three? Hamaguchi is not against it, especially given the positive feedback from the community. On the other hand, this is not a decision set in stone, so you have to take it with a grain of salt.

Fans are very happy to see some of the characters from the FF7 compilation, titles that they loved and enjoyed. So I hope we can continue to do that. But for the moment, in terms of history, nothing is set in stone.
