For several hours, some users of the platform X.com are surprised to see their account certified. The little blue checkmark is indeed displayed for free next to certain nicknames.

If Twitter certification was once a real guarantee of trust, and an almost unattainable objective for ordinary mortals, with Elon Musk at the helm, it only costs a few euros each month. In exchange for a Premium subscription, it is possible to proudly (or not) display the precious certificate on your profile.

Free return certification on Twitter X.com?

However, a few days ago, Elon Musk announced yet another new rule for his X.com network, with the possibility for certain accounts to benefit for free from the advantages offered by Premium and Premium+ subscriptions.

To do this, however, you had to show your credentials, namely having at least 2,500 certified subscribers to claim the benefits of Premium mode, and 5,000 certified subscribers to automatically (and free) become a Premium+ member. In recent hours, certifications have been popping up everywhere.

The blue badge “offered” to the most popular subscribers

Indeed, several journalists and other personalities on X.com were surprised to unexpectedly find (or discover) their verification badge on Elon Musk’s platform. There is a simple reason for this (and mentioned above): the fact that they have at least 2,500 certified subscribers.

It’s difficult to know what prompted X.com to reassign verification checkmarks to the most followed users. According to Steve Dent, for Engagdet : “ This is likely because journalists have seen their importance diminish, while X.com’s algorithms amplify content for paying subscribers. »

Indeed, Premium subscribers have the advantage, for example, of the fact that their responses appear at the top of the list, unlike a renowned journalist.

This is why many take advantage of very popular posts to respond with (usually) an off-topic video, for the sole purpose of generating impressions (and thus claiming a few euros through advertising revenue sharing).

However, in recent months, the blue check mark having become a form of “shame” for many users unhappy with the turn adopted by X.com, many of them having magically regained certification are not necessarily delighted about it.
