New sales record for the Switch which exceeds the PS4 and the Game Boy

Nintendo has just unveiled the first nine months of its fiscal year, an opportunity for the Japanese company to once again flex its muscles with Switch and game sales still on top. We take stock of the updated figures.

The Switch doubles two machines at once

Let’s start with the main course with a Nintendo Switch that is doing wonderfully with a total of 122.5 million machines sold. The holiday season (and especially the release of a Pokémon duo) made it possible to reach sales figures at 8.22 million units between October and December 2022 inclusive. This prowess allows it to first exceed the PS4 (117.2 million units), but especially the Game Boy and its 118.69 million units sold. Even if the objective seems difficult, it only remains to take the first place of the Nintendo DS and its 154.02 million sales.

Even if we must still highlight a drop in the number of sales compared to 2021, it remains the best-selling console of 2022 ahead of the PS5. It should also be noted that, as Nintendo notes, worries about shortages (especially of semiconductors) led to a drop in console production towards the end of the summer. These figures remain in any case very impressive, especially when we know that the Switch is blowing out its six candles of existence.

Games that sell like little Pokémon

Nintendo also took stock of the sales of its games and here again, we reached records especially with Pokemon Scarlet and Purple who draw the jackpot for a launch. so here’s the top 10 best-selling games on Switch:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 52 million
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 41.59 million
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 30.44 million
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 29 million
  5. Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield – 25.68 million
  6. Super Mario Odyssey – 25.12 million
  7. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – 20.61 million
  8. Super Mario Party – 18.79 million
  9. Ring Fit Adventure – 15.22 million
  10. Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! – 15.07 million

We also note the incredible constancy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which is the second best-selling game of all time behind Wii Sports and its 82.9 million. Other sales updates include a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at 1.81 million sales, Splatoon 3 at 10.13 million copies or even Bayonetta which confirms its 1.04 million since its recent release. We do not forget Legends Pokémon Arceus which achieves a great feat with 14.63 million games sold.

We imagine that it is not ready to falter especially at the approach of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom which should boost sales.
