At the end of 2022, Morocco became the first African country ever to reach a World Cup semi-final. A success that experts predicted would have great appeal for an up-and-coming football nation – rightly so?
Three months later they are still reminiscing in West Africa. “But life goes on,” says Amine El Amri, who himself was in Qatar as a sports journalist. And with it everyday life in Morocco’s league with the chance for a new sporting self-confidence, fans as a blessing and a curse and outdated club structures. An assessment after visiting the 3 biggest clubs in the country: Raja and Wydad Casablanca and FAR Rabat.
