The new SRF satire format “The Show of the Month” starts on Sunday with host Gabriel Vetter.
Gabriel Vetter is considered one of the most prominent German-speaking Swiss comedians and satirists. He is known to the SRF audience from the former late-night show “Deville”, where he took on various roles.
Now he has his own show with “The Show of the Month”. The 40-year-old and his team look at it on the political and social events of the last few weeks. Whether global politics or national social issues – the show puts current events in the spotlight from a Swiss perspective, always with a critical eye and Vetter’s usual absurd humor.
Great successes at a young age
The Schaffhausen native has had a remarkable stage career. In 2004, at the tender age of 21, he won the German-speaking Poetry Slam Championships, the largest poetry competition in Europe.
In 2006, he was awarded the renowned radio cabaret prize “Salzburger Stier”, not least as the youngest winner ever. Vetter originally had other career plans. The current father initially studied law in Basel and theater studies in Bern. He ended both with success and joy, as he writes on the homepage of his artist agency.
Your own show as new territory
Now the Basel resident is looking forward to the new challenge with great anticipation: “I find it really exciting when I find myself in new waters. I’m not a ferry that just goes back and forth. I’d rather set off and see where the current takes me.”
I think it’s good to always be on the sidelines.
The satirist is particularly looking forward to designing the show and the team according to his ideas and being at the center of it. Until now, Vetter saw himself as more of an outsider. «With comedians I’m always the one who just tells stories, and with journalists I’m the comedian. But I think it’s good to always be on the sidelines.”
Vetter is also proud that he was able to put together his own team. So alongside him will also be Fabienne Hadorn and Sven Ivanic, Renato Kaiser, Moritz Schädler and Julia Kubik take part in the show.
