You can not only send messages via WhatsApp, but also make phone calls. You can continue to use Messenger, but you have to minimize the phone screen. This is currently done via an arrow that points to the left. But this symbol is probably too misleading for WhatsApp because it can be confused with the “back” symbol often used on Android phones.

The messenger apparently assumes that this will stop many of you from pressing the button because you are afraid that it will unintentionally end the call. In the latest beta version 2.24.7.19 of WhatsApp for Android phones, the arrow in the phone menu has now disappeared. According to the fan blog WABetaInfo, in its place you will see two arrows that move diagonally towards each other.

Minimize phone screen

The new icon is probably intended to make the actual purpose of minimizing the call screen clearer. It remains to be seen when the change will be implemented in the regular version of the messenger. With WhatsApp, this can take a few days or even several weeks.

The messenger may introduce the change together with another innovation. There will soon be a heart symbol in the phone tab of the app. We’ll tell you what’s behind it in the linked article.
