New Tales from the Borderlands reveals gameplay

Officially unveiled at the gamescom opening ceremony, New Tales from the Borderlands had chosen to focus on its more spectacular side for its first trailer. But given the release in October, Gearbox does not have much time to drag out its communication and is already back with two other videos.

New heroes, same galleys

The first video allows us to get to know our trio of protagonists better. We therefore find anu (short for Anuradha), an idealistic scientist who laments that nowadays all technology and research is focused on weaponry and hopes to change things one day to work on causes more useful to the whole of humanity.

There is also his adopted brother Octavio, a hustler with a much less noble goal. Indeed, he admires the most powerful of this world and intends to make a place for himself among them as one of his idols, the CEO of Atlas, a certain mustachioed named Rhys well known in the series.

And we end with French, the owner of the frozen yogurt shop in which Octavio works, a place which unfortunately happens to be the target of laser fire from the Maliwan company by mistake. And she intends to obtain compensation in order to be able to rebuild her shop.

New Tales from the Borderlands will use and abuse QTEs

We are also entitled to a gameplay video that seems to correspond to the demo that some journalists have been able to try in recent days. This is an excerpt from the first episode (because yes, if all the parts will be released on the same day, it will technically be an episodic game that we can binge), our trio must infiltrate here in the midst of Maliwan soldiers.

Some may roll their eyes when they see the word gameplay since we remember that this is a narrative game which will therefore mainly use the controller to make choices during dialogue or for QTEs. However, we are promised a very great interactivity of the story with significant changes according to your choices but also according to your success during the QTEs.

Because yes, missing them will not necessarily mean a game over and the unfolding of the plot may well continue with the consequences of this failure. In an interview granted to the Windows Central site, the team of Gearbox Quebec claims that the adventure should last around twelve hours and culminate in one of five different endings.

New Tales from the Borderlands will be released on October 21, 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch and PC. Pre-orders for its various editions are already open.
