If you want to convert voice messages received on WhatsApp into text, you need an app for this. However, many of these programs display ads or require in-app purchases. A new WhatsApp bot called “Alfred” now offers you the same services – but for free and without advertising. But you can support the project with a donation.
Bot supports 5 languages
The bot, programmed by the Israeli developer Shilo Magen, currently supports five languages: In addition to English and Hebrew, you can also send him voice messages in French, German or Spanish – but only if they are no longer than one minute. In a test by the editors, the conversion took place within a few seconds – almost without errors.
You can contact Alfred via this link. He opens a WhatsApp chat with the bot. Then add Alfred to your contacts and simply forward received voice messages to him. In the chat, Alfred then replies with the transcript of the same.
According to its own information, the service does not save any audio files that you send it. The developer also excludes a resale of the data in the data protection conditions. Of course, this information can only be checked to a limited extent. At least in the chat history, the voice message stayed with us. So you have to trust the developers.

However, the same applies if you use a corresponding app to transcribe text messages. Also note that you can sometimes make yourself liable to prosecution by forwarding messages to third parties.
WhatsApp itself is rumored to be working on a native transcription feature for the iPhone app. Apple’s voice assistant Siri is to be used for this. Whether and when this will be rolled out is still in the stars.
