- As on New Year’s Eve 2023, there were riots against emergency and rescue workers in Berlin in 2024.
- The Berlin police report attacks with pyrotechnics, blank guns and bottles.
- By early morning, over 230 people had been taken into custody.
Initially, the Berlin police said it was comparatively quiet, and tens of thousands actually celebrated exuberantly in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The police then reported the first incidents, including various attacks on emergency services using pyrotechnics, blank guns and bottles. By early morning, over 230 people had been taken into custody and at least 15 officers had been injured.
Around midnight, fireworks were fired at cars in the Neukölln district – including emergency vehicles. In addition, several people shot rockets at police officers. Most of the arrests involved dangerous shooting with dangerous fireworks.
Not all incidents were primarily directed against the police. For example, near Alexanderplatz, several hundred young people attacked each other with pyrotechnics. When the police intervened, they were also shot at with firecrackers.
