“Clothes that carry a message”: Yannik Zamboni makes fashion that is more than just beautiful.
New York Fashion Week is one of the most glamorous events in the fashion world. From September 8th to 13th, the industry’s most creative minds will once again gather to present the trends and designs of the coming season. The event offers a mix of high fashion, celebrity and exciting streetwear.
More than 70 designers
Since 1943, fashion designers from all over the world have been meeting in New York City. Fashion Week now takes place four times a year in the city that never sleeps. In addition to the fashion weeks in London, Paris and Milan, New York Fashion Week is one of the “Big Four”. Over 100,000 visitors are expected at all shows in Manhattan this year.
There are enough beautiful clothes.
A Swiss designer is also exhibiting his fashion at this year’s fashion show. Yannik Zamboni is there for the second time and presents his new “DNA” collection. Like all of the Baselbieter’s collections, this one deals with a socio-political theme. “I think it’s incredibly important to not just make beautiful clothes, but clothes that convey a message,” he says. The message of his latest collection is even visible on the label: “Do not wash if you have just experienced a sexual assault.”
The knitting that Zamboni uses for his works comes from a feminist cooperative in Madagascar. Finally, the designer puts his hand into each piece. This is also of great importance to the designer at New York Fashion Week.
Yannik’s fashion has something that not everyone has.
For the 37-year-old, the show is a great opportunity: “Winners of reality shows are not taken really seriously by the fashion world. I have the urge to prove that I am a real designer.” The designer made his breakthrough in the casting show “Making the Cut”. In it, Heidi Klum evaluated the fashion of up-and-coming designers. It’s not just the German top model who is impressed by Zamboni’s looks.
He also scores points with Manuela Frey with “cuts that are sexy and not every designer has them”. This is something that is needed today, says the 26-year-old before her appearance in the white Zamboni dress. In general, the color white dominates his collections, true to his label “maison blanche”, which he founded three years ago.
