NBA superstar just sits out vaccination trouble

For a long time, Kyrie Irving was not allowed to appear in his Brooklyn Nets home games. Because he is not vaccinated against the corona virus. But those days will soon be over. The NBA superstar could soon appear with a special permit from the New York Mayor.

The Brooklyn Nets can apparently plan with Kyrie Irving again without restrictions in the end of the season and the playoffs. According to information from the US news agency AP, New York Mayor Eric Adams wants to announce an exception rule for athletes and artists today and allow them to work in New York even if they are not vaccinated against the corona virus. So far, Irving has only been allowed to play away for the Nets for this reason.

After the 120:132 against the Memphis Grizzlies, neither Nets coach Steve Nash nor Irving wanted to comment, preferring to wait for an official announcement. On his 30th birthday, Irving had 43 points. Twelve days earlier, he had scored a career-best 60 points in the Nets away game. “It just changes the whole team when he’s out there, so hopefully we’ll get some good news,” Nets star Kevin Durant said Wednesday night.

The Nets remain eighth in the Eastern Conference. Teams up to sixth place qualify directly for the playoffs, from eleventh place the season ends after the main round in April.

At the top, the Miami Heat surprisingly suffered a home defeat against the Golden State Warriors. Without the stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and despite the last three defeats in a row, the Warriors got a 118:104 in Florida.

Maxi Kleber and the Dallas Mavericks managed a 110:91 home win over the Houston Rockets with Dennis Schröder, although the Mavericks were missing their star Luka Doncic with an ankle problem. Kleber had six points and nine rebounds, Schröder scored eleven points for Houston, who is last in the west. Daniel Theis contributed eleven points to the 125:97 of the Boston Celtics over the Utah Jazz. Boston is fourth in the East after the home win. Utah and Dallas are fourth and fifth in the west with the same record.
