Mission Impossible Rogue Nation / Ghost Protocol / Fallout

A cult saga that needs no introduction, Mission Impossible has been worn for a while now by Tom Cruise who plays Ethan Hunt, who is more hotheaded than ever. Here, we can’t really say that the secret agent gets calmer with age and has provided even more incredible adventures than ever in recent years: Rogue Nation, Ghost Protocol and Fallout are the films released in 2011, 2015. and 2018 and together form a trio of stories to shamelessly devour. It’s spectacular, with very risky stunts and effective twists: real American blockbusters as we like them, especially with a good pizza in front of you on a rainy Sunday evening.

Bullet Train

An excellent surprise released in 2022, Bullet Train is an unbridled action film where we follow the misadventures of Coccinelle (Brad Pitt), an assassin who simply has to watch over a briefcase on a Japanese train. The problem is that, firstly, he has always been extremely unlucky and, secondly, nothing will happen as planned: a deadly manhunt then follows in a very nice atmosphere, flirting between the ultra-stylized fights and absurd humor. So, when the latter escapes from prison while committing several murders, Helena finds herself forced to confront her past to protect her family just in case: The Marsh King’s Daughter promises to be a powerful, gray trailer dealing with not the easiest themes (Stockholm syndrome, to name but one) while highlighting a nice cast with Daisy Ridley (Star Wars), Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond the Pines) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron). Another guarantee of quality: the presence of Neil Burger in the production, who has already enjoyed success with Limitless in 2011, for example.

Elysium

Before directing the adaptation of Gran Turismo this year, South African Neill Blomkamp was best known for his science fiction works: he signed the much-loved District 9, but also Chappie or, therefore, Elysium. The latter was released in 2013 and takes Matt Damon as standard bearer, alongside other stars like Jodie Foster or Alice Braga. In 2154, the world has never been so divided: on one side, the ultra-rich who live on the space station Elysium and, on the other, all those living in the giant poverty that the surface has gradually become of the planet. Max belongs to this last category and, tired of having to survive in a society tortured by poverty and crime, will decide to accept a perilous mission entrusted to him, which could well change everything. A rather visually impressive blockbuster that shouldn’t occupy your mind, especially if you like science fiction.
