Between Cyberpunk 2077, Matrix and Ghost in the Shell, the cyberpunk genre has gathered a large number of fans in recent years. But did you know that it originally took shape through a science fiction novel? 40 years after its publication, the latter will finally be entitled to its live action series.

A work at the origin of a popular genre
Video game enthusiasts had Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex or Ghostrunnermoviegoers had Blade Runner And Matrixmanga fans were able to read and watch Ghost in the Shell And gunmbut did you know that the gender cyberpunk originally came from a science fiction novel? While it is of course difficult to attribute the creation of a genre to a single work, Critics and audiences generally agree that there would surely have been no cyberpunk without Neuromancer, the American novel written by William Gibson and published in 1984. While it was his first novel, this author ultimately became the father of an entire genre thanks to a work that won the Nebula Award for Best Novel the year it was published. Thanks to this success, he was able to write two sequels to this story which we know today under the names Count Zero And Mona Lisa has fun.
As in many works inspired by it, Neuromancer immerses the reader in a futuristic and dystopian world where the most unbridled capitalism dictates the rules. The world is then governed by megacorporations and the designer drugs are legion, not to mention the famous cybernetic augmentations which transform humans to improve their physical and brain abilities. The story then revolves around hackers who manage to connect to a Matrix thanks to electrodes fixed on the skull which allow you to feel the digital data. Normally, this whole description should remind you of things if you have seen or played the titles that we cited at the beginning of the article, and even then, we have not talked about the fact that anti-piracy firewall programs are call it “Ice” and that the whole story revolves around the infiltration of a multinational thanks to the help of a few mercenaries.

You will have understood, if you like Cyberpunk 2077, Matrix or Blade Runner, there is a very good chance that you will fall under the spell of Neuromancer. However, science fiction novels aren’t always the easiest to discover when you’re not used to reading, and some potential fans might be put off by this fact. Good news : Neuromancer will finally be entitled to its own live-action series adaptation 40 years after its publication.
Be careful however, this adaptation should not arrive on the most popular SVOD platforms sinceit will integrate the Apple TV+ catalog. It will then join other beautiful productions with notable critical success such as Ted Lasso Or Foundation, to name just a few. The live action series adapted from Neuromancer should consist of 10 episodes and will be carried out by Graham Roland And J.D. Dillardwhich we know respectively for Dark Winds and the latest version of The Twilight Zone. For the moment, it is still too early to announce any casting or release date, but there is no doubt that this kind of information will eventually arrive one day or another. It’s up to you if you want to get ahead and read the original novel before the series grows.
