Have you heard of Violent Night? This American feature film released in 2022, directed by Tommy Wirkola (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) and written by the inseparable duo Josh Miller/Patrick Casey (Sonic, the film) had grossed $76 million at the worldwide box office , for an estimated budget of 20 million dollars. On the casting side, we found David Harbor in the role of the main character – Santa Claus – as well as John Leguizamo (yes, the Luigi from Super Mario Bros. from 1993), Alex Hassell, Alexis Louder, Leah Brady, Braverly D’Angelo or Edi Patterson again. Just released on Netflix, this fantasy comedy already ranks in the Top 10 of the most watched new releasesalongside Code 8: Part 2, Monster Cars and Miraculous World.
Barbarian Santa
“While attempting to rob a wealthy family’s mansion on Christmas Eve, dangerous mercenaries encounter an unexpected adversary: Santa Claus himself.” we read in the Netflix description. The more developed version of the pitch also plays on the side “WTF”. In a sordid bar, Santa Claus drinks beers while hoping to forget that he will have to distribute gifts to ungrateful children who don’t even deserve to receive an orange under the tree. He then returns to his sleigh to continue his tour, without suspecting that this New Year’s Eve is not going to be like the others. His journey will take him to a magnificent house where a separated couple reunites to celebrate the end of year holidays together, in the company of their daughter. The father of the family, Jason Lightstone, was already preparing for a bad evening, his overbearing mother and his difficult sister being part of the party. But he had no idea to what extent it would turn into a nightmare, since a group of mercenaries attacks the luxurious property and threatens its occupants. It is then that Santa Claus decides to lend a helping hand to the little family. He will distribute chestnuts and leave with a blood-red suit. Oh oh oh !
