Nothing seems able to stop the stratospheric rise of Christopher Nolan. Everything succeeds for the British filmmaker who has just won seven Oscars with Oppenheimer. His career does not prevent him from following cinema news and seeing some of the most popular films recently. He even just described one of them as extraordinary, no less!

Christopher Nolan on the Hollywood rooftop

Christopher Nolan is in March 2024 the most influential and media-driven director in Hollywood. The English filmmaker managed to collect nearly a billion US dollars at the box office with his latest film. (964.6 million) even though it is a biopic on the “father of the atomic bomb”. Oppenheimer with Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Josh Harnett and Matt Damon even left the 96th Academy Awards with their hands full of statuettes.

Oppenheimer was undoubtedly THE Oscar film. Praised by his peers, he was awarded 7 times: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), Best Music, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. Nothing can resist Christopher Nolan in 2023-2024 and the future should smile on him in the years to come. The latter is currently working on a remake of the series “The Prisoner” broadcast in the mid-60s, but this information remains at the level of rumor for the moment.

Crowned with global success, Christopher Nolan nonetheless remains an accomplished film buff. As busy as his career is, he takes the time to watch the films that are released in theaters and does not fail to salute the work of his colleagues when their creations hit the mark with him. A Japanese sci-fi film that also won an Oscar (for its visual effects) has completely won over the creative mind behind Oppenheimer. It must be said that his film and the one he praises share several themes including that of the nuclear bomb.

While C. Nolan’s film is a biopic on its creator, Godzilla Minus One is an allegory of this weapon of mass destruction. Directed and written by Takashi Yamazaki, This new film adaptation of the kaiju celebrates 70 years of the franchise in Japan and around the world. The reception was extremely positive both from professionals in the field (Steven Spielberg is full of praise) and from spectators. Godzilla Minus One earned US$107 million at the box office on an estimated budget of US$10–12 million.

I found it to be an extraordinary film. I found it fascinating. It’s beautifully done and its mechanics are so captivating. The characters have great depth and the importance of the story is wonderful, which I really enjoyed. -Christopher Nolan
