Crunchyroll is the platform known for streaming anime. However, it is strongly questioned by Bleach fans.

Bleach is an anime that left its mark on many fans and which made a sensational return with the adaptation of its final arc: Thousand-Year Blood War. For its part, Crunchyroll is organizing its traditional Anime Awards and announced on January 17 the series nominated in the different categories for the 2023 edition. Problem, for the anime of the year award, Bleach is largely absent from the nominations.

Crunchyroll with a grudge?

Fans were quick to show their displeasure over Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 not being nominated for Anime of the Year. We can already count prestigious names like Chainsaw Man, Jujustu Kaisen, Demon Slayer and Vinland Saga in the list. For many Bleach had its place here and accuse Crunchyroll of being in bad faith. Indeed, the platform does not have the broadcast rights for this last part which were granted to Disney + and many consider the choice not to mention it in the nominees as hypocrisy on their part. A reaction that seems exaggerated, but not so much when we know the anticipation that this sequel aroused after its announcement. Studio Pierrot, which was responsible for the animation, exceeded all fans’ expectations and perfectly adapted the beginning of the ending written by the original author Tite Kubo. On Twitter, everyone had a field day attacking the platform’s decision. Frustrating for fans who will still be able to vote for their favorite anime among the nominees.

A 10 year wait

If you remember Bleach as one of the flagship anime of your childhood and you stopped following it, you must be thinking: how is it possible that its ending is only being adapted now? Indeed, the manga ended in 2016 and the last episode of the series was broadcast 4 years before with number 366. A sudden stop can be linked to the significant production cost given the wait that aroused the anime. This may also be due to the fact that the manga was much less successful than at its beginnings and therefore a general loss of interest for readers. It is for this reason that the announcement of the sequel in 2020, shortly before the Covid 19 pandemic, which drove early fans crazy. Part 1 and 2 have already been released on Disney+ and part 3 will arrive sometime in 2024.
