After the notable release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019, Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino planned to do it again. In fact, the two Hollywood stars were preparing a new film called The Movie Critic. But the filmmaker curiously canceled the project, and this is far from delighting the American actor.

A tenth and final film

For over 30 years nowQuentin Tarantino is one of the greatest figures of cinema American. Renowned for delirious narrative structures and fierce and jubilant production, each of his films marks the public and creates the event. Proof of this is the triumphant exit of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019, who knew how, like few are capable, to reconcile critical success and commercial success. Two Oscars, three Golden Globes and $375 million at the box office. The kind of result that should push Sony, producer of the film, to launch the star director on a new project.

However, this next production has a special value for Quentin Tarantino : it will most certainly be his last. Indeed, for years now, the filmmaker from Tennessee has been telling anyone who will listen that he will end his career after his tenth feature film, and that he intends to stick to it. However, if we count Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 as one and the same film, no less than 9 works constitute his filmography. This is therefore his tenth and final feature film that Tarantino is preparing, an explanation to the doubts and questions which seem to torment the director.

The Movie Critic canceled

One last project about which we were beginning to know a lot, including the title: The Movie Critic. The story would have taken place in 1977 in Los Angeles, and would have focused on Jim Sheldon, a film critic most likely inspired by Tarantino himself. The latter then wrote for the New Beverly cinema journal. For the leading role, it is Brad Pitt who was selected at the expense of Leonardo DiCaprio. The two men could have worked together for the third time together, after the fabulous Inglorious Basterds And Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The names of Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchet had even been mentioned to add to the cast.

The film will ultimately not see the light of day. Despite a script that he has completely rewritten many times in recent years, Quentin Tarantino doesn’t seem convinced by his story. Wishing to end his career by meeting all the quality standards that we know of, the star director preferred to interrupt the production of the feature film rather than be disappointed by it. A decision which, according to InTouchWeeklydistressed Brad Pitt, who was very excited and concerned by the project. Still, this is not the first time that the filmmaker changes his mind about his films.

The proof is the numerous aborted projects (or not) such as Kill Bill 3 or even The bastard eight. The latter was in production when Tarantino announced that he would no longer direct it following a leak of the script, decision to which he will return shortly afterallowing the film to finally be released in winter 2016. We can only hope that Tarantino ends up finding the perfect formula, to conclude his illustrious career
