Christian Bale is once again embarking on an exceptional physical transformation. This time, the Batman interpreter adopts a monstrous look for his next project.
A monstrous physical transformation
It’s been some time since we last saw Christian Bale in the cinema. The British actor’s latest film, The Pale Blue Eyes, was released directly on Netflix last year and some viewers were able to hear his voice in the English version of Hayao Miyazaki’s latest masterpiece, The Boy and the Heron. Don’t panic though, the actor will soon return in a promising new feature film: The Bride, a revisited version of Frankenstein’s Bride directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. For this new film in which Christian Bale is to play the famous monster, the actor has once again opted for a breathtaking physical transformation. Warner has just shared a first photo which not only offers a glimpse of the creature, but which also suggests the tone of this new work which seems to be more in tune with the times.

A project to watch
Decidedly more pop and modern than previous iterations of The Bride of Frankenstein, The Bride should nevertheless offer a story fairly faithful to the initial material. In the heart of 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein leads a wandering life. As loneliness begins to weigh on him, he asks Doctor Euphronius to create a companion for him by resurrecting a murdered woman. The two monsters then experience a wild and explosive love which begins to attract the attention of the police and a radical social movement.
Christian Bale is working for the first time alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal, actress with whom he shared the poster for The Dark Knight. He will be accompanied here by Jessie Buckley, Peter Sarsgaard, Penélope Cruz and Anette Bening. The Bride is scheduled for release next year. A film to watch and not to confuse with the Netflix adaptation of Frankenstein led by Guillermo del Toro, another particularly promising project which is due out in 2025.
