What if the science fiction film of 2024 was not Dune 2, but rather Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s major project? The master of the seventh art behind Apocalypse Now and The Godfather trilogy will soon return to the cinema with this film that he has dreamed of for over forty years.
Megalopolis tells the story of a fictional version of New York. The city is in ruins after a disaster and an idealistic architect (Adam Driver) wants to build a new utopian city. But he comes up against the decisions of the mayor (Giancarlo Esposito) who prefers to keep control of his city and return to its initial state. A confrontation between past and future, a film which already promises to be immense and which could well be this year’s masterpiece, at least if we are to believe the first opinions.

Francis Ford Coppola is very keen on this project. The filmmaker has wanted to make it since the early 2000s, but encountered various problems that prevented him from getting started. He would have ended up investing nearly $120 million out of his own pocket to finally bring his vision to life. And he is now reaching his goal.
