“The dream is to sit down with the masters of our art.” Fede Álvarez listened to the valuable feedback from Ridley Scott and James Cameron for his future film. And it looks like things are looking good.

Take out the Pulse Rifle, they’re coming back!

After various projects stamped “Alien” directed by Ridley Scott which did not win all the votes, the next episode taking place in the universe of the saga is feverishly awaited by xenomorph fans. Situated between Alien and Aliens, “the interquel” Alien Romulus was revealed through a trailer which managed to reassure a certain number of fans. Everything seems there: the sticky atmosphere, the strobe lights, and of course, nightmarish creatures and screams echoing through spaceships. The story focuses on a group of young space colonizers who will encounter one of the most dangerous creatures in the universe. Shivers!

Alien: Romulus director Fede Alvarez, known for his work on Evil Dead (the remake) and Don’t Breathe, says he got the idea to follow a group of young colonists after discovering a deleted scene from Aliens (later restored by Cameron) where we saw children having fun in a colony. “I then wondered what it would be like for these children to grow up in a colony that still needs 50 years to terraform.” Alvarez tells The Hollywood Reporter.

“Really great”

Still in the lines of The Hollywood Reporter, we learn that Alvarez presented his edit to Ridley Scott, without integrated special effects, and that the latter told the young director: “Fede, what can I say? It’s really awesome”. “As intimidating as it can be, that’s the best part about being able to work on something like this” adds Fede Alvarez. “For all of us, whatever our profession, the dream is to sit down with the masters of our craft and have a conversation about what we do and learn how to do it better”. The director explains having worked a lot with Ridley Scott, going so far as to discuss the film’s early intentions and provide him with the script in order to discuss what could be improved. “So I consider each of these moments and each of these creative conversations with Ridley as a highlight of my career and my life” he admits.

James Cameron also had his say on Alien Romulus. “He saw the movie and loved it” explains Alvarez, stating that the Aliens dad’s comments were totally different from Ridley Scott’s. “Whatever Ridley said, Cameron was saying something different. These were very intelligent thoughts on the film and the direction. What’s fantastic (…) is to have the chance to work with them”.

The short trailer broadcast is in any case enough to arouse our interest, especially since the director claims to have been very careful in the choice of the extracts revealed. “I went to great lengths to make sure I showed as little as possible at this point. It’s just enough to keep you interested, but not too much. Personally, I hate spoilers” he confides. Alien Romulus will be released on August 14, 2024 in France.
