Tomorrow it all begins

If you’re the type who likes dramatic comedies with subjects that can sometimes be moving, you’ll love the first addition of January to Netflix! Released in December 2016 in cinemas, Tomorrow it all begins is a French film directed by Hugo Gélin (Like brothers, My strangersome episodes of Lupine…) featuring Omar Sy (Lupine, Skirmishers, Untouchables…), Clémence Poésy (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Tenet, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire…) and the young Gloria Colston. It tells the story of Samuel who lives his life without responsibilities by the sea in the south of France, until one of his old conquests reappears to present him with an 8-month-old baby: his daughter Gloria. Despite his initial inability to care for a child, he will have no choice but to raise his daughter alone for 8 years, until Gloria’s mother comes back into their lives to get her daughter back. If you want to discover the original story of this unusual family, you can already do so since the film has been available on Netflix since January 1st.

Ticket to Paradise

Do you like comedies but are you already fed up with the winter atmosphere that has set in for a few weeks and which is unlikely to stop right away? Do you already want to think about your future hypothetical or non-hypothetical trip to paradise islands? Netflix has the answer to your prayers. From January 5, you will be able to take advantage of Ticket to Paradise. Directed by Ol Parker (to whom we owe the sequel to Mama Mia at the cinema), this romantic comedy was released in cinemas on October 5, 2022 and is already arriving on the SVOD platform. If its synopsis is rather classic (a couple separated for a few years is forced to spend a vacation together to join their daughter who is about to get married in turn), the entire appeal of the film lies in its 5-star casting. Indeed, by watching Ticket to Paradise, you will have the opportunity to see these two big names of the genre again, George Clooney and Julia Roberts, more than 20 years after their first collaboration in the legendary Ocean’s Eleven. Seeing them take on the role of the separated couple who never stop throwing barbs at each other is a real treat that you can watch from January 5 on Netflix.

The Cloud

Rest assured, there won’t just be comedies to enjoy in January on Netflix. Among the new films added to the catalog this month, we find in particular The CloudFrench film released in theaters on June 16, 2021. Directed by Just Philippot (to whom we also owe the film Acid released in cinemas in 2023), this feature film presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020 juggles between drama and some horrific elements. It tells the story of Virginie, a farmer and single mother who launches into the edible grasshopper business. Little by little, however, she will lose her mind as she develops a more than strange bond with the insects she cultivates, starting an infernal spiral with the rest of her family. If the film did not necessarily convince the public at the time of its theatrical release, it is still one of those projects which attempt to renew French cinema by offering something more original and more daring than the usual comedies. which can be found in theaters. If it piques your curiosity, you can watch The Cloud from January 5 on Netflix.

Mortal Kombat

The highlight of this January’s show is undoubtedly the arrival of the film Mortal Kombat on Netflix! Don’t panic, we’re not talking about the one from 1995 (or worse, the one from 1997), but the very last live-action feature film adapted from the legendary video game saga and released in 2021. Less ridiculous than what players have been accustomed to in the past but still very kitsch, this action and martial arts film follows the usual synopsis of the saga. Thus, Mortal Kombat tells the story of several champions of Earth sent to fight against the enemies of the Other World to save the planet from total annihilation. On the menu, impressive and bloody choreography of course but also some not-so-subtle references that will please fans. Little appreciated by critics, the film still won over audiences with a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. If you want to treat yourself to this little treat, however, you will have to wait until the end of the month since Mortal Kombat will be available on Netflix from January 30.
