In an interview given to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorcese says Steven Spielberg came to the set of The Wolf of Wall Street just to say hello. It must be said that the two directors know each other well since they are both part of the movement known as “New Hollywood” which revolutionized the way films were made in the 60s and 70s. Since then, the two men have remained good friends, which explains Spielberg’s presence on the set. But while he was only passing by to say hello and greet both the director and Leonardo DiCaprio who appeared several times in his films, things took an unexpected turn.

That day, Steven Spielberg ended up staying longer than expected, to the point of helping Martin Scorcese on the set of a scene, the one featuring Steven Madden. “He told me he came to greet me and ended up staying all day to help me, saying, “I think you should move the camera.”” Scorcese tells The Hollywood Reporter. The situation surprised more than one, starting with Jonah Hill who couldn’t believe seeing this legendary director get so involved.
Obviously, this situation was the source of additional pressure for certain actors who no longer saw themselves performing in front of one renowned director, but two at the same time! ““It was like a double whammy for everyone on set” says Leonardo DiCaprio, “Everyone who was going to play that day was like, “Spielberg and Scorsese are looking at me? Damn it!”“. Fortunately, everything went well without any hitches and the actors knew how to cope with this pressure. And the funniest thing in all of this, This is not the first time that the two directors have crossed paths on the set of a film with Leonardo DiCaprio since Martin Scorcese had already come to greet Steven Spielberg on that of Catch Me If You Can.
