If Dune will have a third chapter, Denis Villeneuve promises it: this person will occupy a more important place on the screen.
If you had the opportunity to see Dune 2 in the cinema, you were able to witness the debut of actress Florence Pugh’s character in the role of Princess Irulan. Minutes counted on the screen, as they are so few in number. But director Denis Villeneuve assures us that if there is a sequel (and it is very likely that there will be), the princess will occupy a much more important place. A promise already made – and kept – for Zendaya during her short introduction in the first part and reiterated for the Hollywood actress from Midsommar in the columns of Entertainment Weekly:
When I approached Zendaya for the first part, I told her: “I will introduce your character and, if there is a second film, you will be one of the main protagonists”.I made the same agreement with Florence. Her character is introduced in the second part, but if there is an adaptation of Dune Messiah, it is obvious that Princess Irulan will be one of the main characters in this story.
According to several sources, Villeneuve apologized several times to Pugh for the small space his role took up on screen. A situation which already recalls his role in Oppenheimer, for which Christopher Nolan had already said he was sorry. “When I spoke with Denis, he kept apologizing and saying: “In this film, it’s not really a big role. I won’t be offended if you refuse. I told him: “I do not care ! I just want to come see you work. It is a dream“, the actress confided earlier. Interviewed by the media Fandango, Florence Pugh spoke at greater length about the nature of her character, very much in the background in this second chapter. The daughter of Emperor Shaddam is, according to her, “extremely different“of what she has known before.”She is always observing, listening and waiting“, she said, before saluting the princess’ masterful calm.

Unsurprisingly, Dune 2 is a real hit at the cinema and largely dominates. In the United States, however, this was without taking into account the sensational arrival of the fourth part of Kung Fu Panda, which succeeded in its launch to the point of surpassing Villeneuve’s film. The animated film has nevertheless already managed to garner the sum of 58.3 million dollars at the box office and has positioned itself as the most prolific novelty of the moment. During the period from March 8 to 10, Dune 2 collected 46 million, pushing its total to 157 million dollars.
