Marvel is going through a tough time

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe enjoyed such great popularity that it was able to redefine the model of big-budget entertainment films, we must admit that the golden age of superhero films seems to be over. Indeed, for several months, Marvel films have no longer really been able to convince as many people as during the Avengers era. While a new MCU film was a real event a few years ago, we hardly expect them today, especially since last year.

Indeed, while the start of phase IV was able to reassure some worried fans thanks to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or even The Eternals (even if the latter had a more mixed reception than the others), the MCU subsequently released many projects whose quality oscillated between “average” and “disappointing”. In the cinema, spectators were thus able to regret the treatment of the characters in Thor: Love and Thunder or the lack of impact of Black Panther: Wakanda Forevernot to mention Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania or The Marvels which definitely did not convince many people. In the end, among the feature films released in recent months, only Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 really had the effect one would expect from a production of this scale.

One of the MCU’s Most Important Players Reframes Criticisms

Unfortunately, this famous fatigue with superhero-based productions is not only felt in the cinema. On Disney+, the MCU has also acquired a good number of different series to expand its universe and here again the results are mixed. If WandaVision, Loki, Ms. Marvel And Moon Knight were still able to find their audience, other series like Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye And She-Hulk: Lawyer had much more difficulty achieving the same result. Even worse, Secret Invasion was a real fiasco when it really could have been the springboard that Marvel needed to bounce back into new genres. But then, Has Marvel lost its flavor? On the Internet, many spectators have been able to express their recent disgust with the universe and the superheroic genre. Some even went so far as to mock the production studio by accusing it of no longer knowing what to do and of no longer being capable of making good films. Asked about this at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, actor Chris Evans wanted to set the record straight:

Making superhero movies isn’t easy. If it were, there would be a lot more good films (without wanting to drag anyone through the mud). Some Marvel projects are objectively phenomenal.

As a good Captain America, the actor therefore came to defend the creatives who are still trying to keep the genre alive despite criticism and the growing lack of interest from spectators. Of course, Disney is fully aware of this bad period since CEO Bob Iger himself had declared that he wanted to slow down the pace a little to concentrate on more qualitative projects. A method that we hope to see bear fruit in the next MCU films and series. As a reminder, the most anticipated series in this universe are currently Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, Ironheart And Daredevil: Born Again while cinema lovers will soon be able to discover Deadpool and Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts And Fantastic Four.
