Throughout Dragon Ball, the question of inheritance plays a central place in Akira Toriyama’s work. While Gohan has long been presented as Goku’s rightful heir, the story of the manga has proven to us that the issue is more complex than that. Dragon Ball Super has just provided a new answer to this question.
Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103 holds a special place in the hearts of Dragon Ball fans. Beyond being the end of the Super Hero arc, it is above all the final chapter supervised by Akira Toriyama before he leaves us on March 1st. Most touchingly, the author made a correction on the last page in which Piccolo turns to say goodbye, smiling, before flying away alongside Goku, Gohan and Pan .
In the context of the author’s death, this scene takes on a very special meaning, especially when we know that Piccolo was his creator’s favorite character. Beyond this touching context, this chapter seems to indicate that a certain character has everything to be Goku’s heir, even more than Gohan and Goten.

To put things in context, this chapter 103 was intended to show the confrontation between Goku and Gohan who has just reached a new stage of power by transforming into Beast. After a close fight, father and son return to Earth to pick Pan up from school. At the end of this chapter without dialogue, we see that the little girl is surprised to see her grandfather and points at him.
It is then that Gohan suggests that he attack Goku by surprise, probably because the latter had forgotten his existence a few squares before. Despite its speed, the little girl does not come to surprise the martial arts master who responds to her with a smile. Eventually, the two seem to get along well and begin racing through the air.

By these simple boxes, we understand that Pan has a state of mind quite similar to that of Goku, namely extroverted with a desire to fight, which makes her a very legitimate heiress to the Saiyan who needs no introduction.. Conversely, we remember that Gohan had everything to take this place, and we believed him after the Cell arc. However, the Boo arc proved to us that Gohan doesn’t like fighting, even though he is now on his father’s level in terms of power. Conversely, Goten is more behind than evereven in Dragon Ball Super, which hardly makes him a legitimate heir.
What further supports this logic is the end of Dragon Ball in which we see that Pan trained with Goku and that she is overpowered for the Martial Arts Tournament in which she is participating. Thus, more than Gohan, Goten or even Oob (who we will see later), Pan has everything to be a worthy heir of Son Goku through her desire to fight and her overflowing joy of life.. It remains to be seen what the future of DBS manga has in store for us.
