The world of George RR Martin

The adaptation of the works of George RR Martin on screen, allowed a wider audience to discover a rich universe between dragons and manipulation. HBO took on this difficult task, as the intrigues and other plots were a real challenge to stage in a clear manner. The pilot had also been a real disaster, and had to benefit from a new test so that the spectators fully understood the story and the issues.

Despite the fact that the last season was not unanimous among the fan community, a spin-off was released in 2022. Titled House of the Dragon, it highlights the family of Daenerys Targaryen and the events that marked this powerful house. Released at the same time as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, it stood out for the quality of its writing, its staging, its endearing characters and the complexity of the issues. Unsurprisingly, it has been renewed for a second season, and it will be possible to watch it on June 16.

What also makes this universe successful is how omnipresent death is. Goerge RR Martin moves away from conventional stories by featuring characters working for good, who die in excruciating suffering. Heartbreaking scenes for the spectators, especially when it comes to the main characters. However, there is one death that was particularly satisfying and that fans like to remember ten years later. This is that of Joffrey Baratheon.

The death of this character, a rejoicing which dates back 10 years ago

April 13, 2014 is the date when episode 2 of the fourth season was broadcast for the first time. Named The Lion and the Rose, it is known to spectators for a joyful element: the death of Joffrey Baratheon. Considered one of the most detestable characters in any series, fans felt great relief when he died in atrocious conditions. As a reminder, he died of poisoning, collapsing with blood coming out of his eyes and nose and a pale complexion. So, ten years later, fans still remember this memorable moment when a fundamentally cruel and malicious character was killed.

However, the actor Jack Gleeson who played this great villain, was enormously associated with his character. He also did not appreciate the sudden fame, and decided to take a break from his career. Either way, his brilliant performance is forever remembered by fans, even more than a decade later.
